The Glove

Saw this ad on the MRT today. It's a maxi pad ad with a woman about to go to bed with a white baseball glove. I guess it's for those really heavy flo nights.

Disco Christmas

Another year here in Taiwan for Christmas. It's easy to get a little bummed out as there is almost no feeling of Christmas here and the 25th is just another workday. Was feeling a bit down today when I saw this apartment decorated for Christmas. Not sure if you can see or not, but those are disco balls hanging amongst the decorations. Because, of course, nothing says Merry Christmas better than disco inferno!

No Drink and Drive

One of the ironic things of this sign is that it was posted at one of the MRT stations (subway) in Taipei. The only people who see it are the ones that already don't drive. I thought the wineglass mouth was pretty funny as well.

Two Peck

Today my coworker Veronica treated us to afternoon tea. In addition to tea, she also bought us fried chicken. What I thought was interesting was the packaging. The English name was Two Peck, which I would assume is a reference to the chicken. I couldn't help but think were they also trying to reference 2Pac. The chicken was tasty, however, the picture of the person on the package is what really freaked me out.

Paper Recycling

Today is paper recycling day at the office. Gotta love the Taiwanese when it comes to inventiveness and gadgets. A big truck pulls up to the office and to my delight and surprise, it has a man operated claw to grab the heavy boxes to load them onto the truck. Regretably, the operator wouldn't let me give it a spin.

Taiwan High Speed Rail

This past weekend my company took us to the southern tip of Taiwan for a weekend of sun, sand and general chillaxing on the beach. The area we stayed in is called Kenting where surf culture is alive and strong (which is not as rare as you might think in Taiwan). Since Taipei is at the Northern end of the island and Kenting is at the Southern end, we took the Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR) from Taipei to Kaohsiung. The train is the same as the very famous Japanese Shinkansen and can travel up to 300km/h (186 mph)...which is fast enough to get from the top of Taiwan to the bottom in 90 minutes (by car it is about 5-6 hours or longer depending on traffic). Here is a video I took out the window. No, I did not speed up the film.

Sick of Bazilian BBQ...How about Sushi???

Since we were dealing with a severe meat overload by going to Brazilian BBQ 2 nights in a row, someone suggested Japanese. But like most Asian restaurants in the West, Japanese just meant "Pan Asian". The food was still good though and the seafood was very fresh.
